Since 2008, the Residency of the Americas program was so successful that it was decided, with the support from the Arts Council of Montreal, that it would be separated into two separate geographical areas, to accommodate more artists and curators. The call this year targets artists and curators from Latin America. Starting 2016, a new program for North America (US and Canada) will be established, which will be added to the first.
This residency fosters a dynamic artistic contact with the Latine America. Offering a wide cultural diversity, it combines two types of residents: artists and art critics/curators.
A studio measuring 60 meters squared with accommodation is provided. Washing and cooking facilities are shared with the other resident artists. Residents have access to wood and metal workshops, with technical assistance. In addition, each resident is given the option to participate in open studio events, studio visits by art professionals, networking events, and excursions.
The committee ensures fair representation and consideration of artistic specialization, gender, Aboriginal peoples and cultures from around the world.
The residency includes:
– Airfare (max CAN$1,200)
– Artist: live-in studio for three months from January 1st to March 30th
– Curator: live-in studio for two months from April 1st to May 30th
– A stipend of CAN$250 per week
Applications are evaluated by a committee of arts professionals based on:
– the quality of the applicant’s work;
– potential impact of the residency on the applicant’s career;
– contribution to the Canadian arts community.
Deadline : August 1st of each year for a residencie in the following year
NEW DEADLINE (2015): AUGUST, 7
